Hi Brian, BCR-??M is definitely a Triac.

The 38 is the Amps.

My databook only goes up to BCR-30,
These might give you a clue,

BCR-25A-10      500v 25A

BCR-30GM-10     500v 30A
BCR-30GM-8      400v 30A
BCR-30GM-4      200v 30A
