In Germany we have 230V and really not these problems. I don't keep track of bulb replacement cycles but I expect a normal bulb to last at least a year (in normal home use, windowed room, no completely closed lamp housing). "Compact flouros" of quality should last 4, 5 years, cheap ones may blow after only 2 years. And yes, they advertise a 5 year guarantee for the quality flouros. And I don't think 10V make the difference (well, if they take the bulbs for 230V and ship them to Australia.... ;-) ) One reason may be the lamp housing.
