When a manufacturer tells you that a compact fluorescent has a 7 year
guarantee, they are banking the fact that most people do not track their
receipts for light bulbs, to be able to claim a free replacement.  It is all
based on actuarial science.  How many people even send in rebates for
products?  It is a marketing ploy.
