I've used the Autorouter in Eagle with much success. Despite what my friend Bob Ammerman says, I like the autorouter Usually with about 3-4 tries, rearrangeing components in between, I can get it to 99%, then I route the rest by hand. Still less time than banging it out by hand. Also fun to watch ;-) Yes, your original layout probably WAS better than the autorouter. You can always do a better job manually, given enough time, whether you are baking a loaf of bread, driving your car (manual vs stickshift) or routing a board. The issue is, whether your clients are PAYING you for all that extra work or not.
