In the Picstart Plus window you can chose to let the unprotect checksum b=
e
present as the ID number. A button close to the ID number if I remember
right.
Before the programmer sets the config it verify the contents in the PIC. =
You
do not need to do this manually.

but once with the code protect off, then verify, then program again with
