From a purely scientific standpoint, the prospect of reorbiting the earth sounds facinating, and maybe (probably) doable. But, to be honest, I couldn't care less whether this happens or not. And it doesn't matter a rats behind if that gives another billion years or more to the life of the earth. Fact is, none of us will be here probably within the next 200 years, let alone anything beyond that. So all this scientific speculation and planning will be for naught regarding our (my) lifetime(s). We won't be anywhere near here to enjoy it, even if it does become reality, (which I highly doubt anyway). If anyone takes issue with my feelings or attitude toward this thread, and I expect some will, please bombard me offline and free the bandwidth of the PICLIST of your fury.
