Hi Shawn, I looked something like this a little while ago, but didn't end up proceeding.. I was looking at some of the Epson thermal mechanisms.. they seemed relatively easy to use, you shift in the current "line" of data and strobe the heater elements. The trick is that you have to do this as the paper is moving so timing is important. You would also need to be able to "render" text, so some internal representation of a font is needed so you can build the line to print. try: http://mechs.epson.com/ Good luck.
