Due to the push to reduce HDD costs and part counts, these analog circuits are all contained in custom servo ASICs. Since I'm a firmware developer I'm not involved in that aspect of development and couldn't give you any suggestions. Good luck though. I'm looking for a sensorless (back EMF) 3 phase brushless spindle and voice coil motor driver used in commercial HDD's. The type used in millions of disk drives. The chip i see in my IBM drive seems to be a Hitachi OEM part (7F1S 89G7612) and it's not on their website. Any driver with the following specs will do: Spindle motor Min 1.2A Max RPM 7200 VCM min 0.5A In a SMD copper heatsinkable package (Batwings or HSSOP) Most importantly, i need volume pricing in the 20K/mth range. Been searching Google and Altavista for over a week now and nada. Got some info from Philips, Lucent and various other manufacturers but nothing cheap enough (below US$2.00) or they've got no budgetary pricing on their site. If you've got any hush-hush info please mail me off-list. Thanks a bunch!
