The www.gnupic.org guys have integrated other components to their simulat= or and there is a GUI similar to MPLAB and my idea was that you can integrat= e your program in there like PICSTART PLUS is integrated to MPLAB. And ther= e is PICSTART PLUS drivers for Linux that can be integrated there also but = to make the Pocket programmer available as an alternative would be neat. I'm not a Linux programmer myself but I believe there is a lot of people = out there that can make this project even more interesting by joining the guy= s at www.gnupic.org. They have some nice ideas to make simulator components like LCDs and switches that includes real features like switch bouncing simulating etc. I'm sure they welcome more active developers to join up w= ith them. I have heard about many people wishing for MPLAB to be open source = so they can improve it and add new features, but I guess that that will not happen as there are copyright issues that is hard to solve but for all developers that have an interest in make the development tools as they wa= nt it they have an excellent opportunity to make it with the www.gnupic.org guys. This is just a set of interface tools for the Pocket (which is programming hardware). However, I do plan to be able to run these tools from a Makefile in such a way that you could have a "program" or "install" target that either programs your chip or sends the hex file to the Pocket.
