        For an assembler, I've been using gpasm
(http://gpasm.sourceforge.net)  under linux. It works
quite well. I've mainly used it for the 16f84, 16c71,16c74,and the 16f873.
        For the picstart-plus I've been using picp under linux
(http://www.cosmodog.com/pic/)
