I have used both a U664B and a NEC uPD358 (?) as prescaler. The U664B comes in DIP 8pins or SIL 6 pins. The pinouts are: DIP8: 1 NC 2 Input 1 couple through 1nF 3 Input 2 ground through 1nF 4 GND 5 SEL or NC connect to VCC 6 Output 1 0.8Vpp 7 Output 2 0.8Vpp 8 VCC The layout is not critical, just put a 1/3" wide copper ground line completely enclosing the chip area, as close to it as possible (and under it). Draws 50mA at 5V. Peter PS: There are some newer scaler chips available that are SMD. I have never used those but if someone has, please say so. I am interested in something that goes to 3-4GHz for work in the 2.4GHz area. -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The PICList is archived three different ways.
