(from Embedded Systems Programming, april 2001, p 167) The CMX Tiny RTOS for Microchip Technology's PIC12CX core is a preemptive, multitasking RTOS for processor with a small amount of onboard program memory. It allows engineers to develop application code that runs under an RTOS but only use the on-board ROM and RAM provided by the processor. According to the company, CMX-Tiny does not require any external RAM, regardless of whether the processor can support external RAM or not. Its code size is such that in certain instances, it allows the processor's on-board ROM to support both application code and the RTOS code. The PIC 12C6X architecture is an enhanced RISC core offering up to two million bytes of program memory address space and 10 MIPS preformance at 10 MHz.
