It wasn't me! - but I have some storage heaters in my attic workshop,
and I connected them via a system known as HeatWise (this is in the UK).

What this does is provide energy to the heaters for a certain number of
hours during the day or night, however the time can vary within certain
slots - they actually turn them on and off with a signal transmitted
over a national AM radio station. The new meter they fitted is an LCD
unit, and provides 5 different readings - the meter readers hate it :-).
