Sort of like a bad zener, and definitely not >what you expect from a capacitor! I have seen them go short in various ways. The worst one was on a brand new mini computer system which (luckily) we had left to do a burn in before commissioning. Someone suddenly noticed that smoke was issuing forth from the machine and hit the power off button rapidly. The culprit was one of these capacitors, which had gone low enough in impedance that the 300A 5V supply figured more current was needed and the capacitor glowed red hot until a hole a bit bigger than a quarter was burnt in the circuit board. -- http://www.piclist.com hint: PICList Posts must start with ONE topic: [PIC]:,[SX]:,[AVR]: ->uP ONLY!
