Hi Like Mike says, Go into the ini file, and edit the com port setting to the required port. MPLAB highlights the com ports that windows has available. But I remember having this problem. I wanted to use com 3 but MPLAB greyed the option out. I set the ini file to com 3 and it worked for me. Check out the PICSTART+ help file / Trouble shooting / Failure to establish communications / , It mentions this very thing and to edit the ini file. Go to the section with the heading "[programmers]". Under there you will find a setting that says "CommPort=1" or "CommPort=2". Change the '1' or '2' to a '3' or '4' and save the changes. I've tried this using COM 3, and MPLAB shows that I have configured the programmer to work on a grayed out "COM 3". Since I don't have a COM 3, the programmer shouldn't work for me. Hopefully it will work for you. -Mike *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Dyson's Contrarotator(TM) is the first washing machine with 2 drums rotating in opposite directions at once.
