James, It would be a cross between an index and a search engine, so people using it could "know" what items are indexed in techref, rather than have to guess. It would not require any "explicit" cross-linking however, but just a way to direct the keyword clicked upon into the search engine -[this cannot be too hard]. You would "not" want to use pop up/scrollable windows - [too bad someone did not shoot Steve Jobs immediately after he invented those] - but rather would look something like the index in a book - multiple columns, easily scanned with minimual scrolling. Something like the following - you could easily display 100-150 keywords on one webpage prior to scrolling: Enter Search word, or click on keyword +---------------------+ | | GO +---------------------+ Keyword Table ------------- A/D converters capacitors D/A converters op amps analog amplifiers charge pumps error messages oscillators BCD conversion compilers - C . oscilloscopes binary numbers compilers - PIC . . . . . RS-232 . . . SPI [25 lines worth] . I2C . . . integrators . . digital I/O . . > >Well, how about an index of the site, along the lines >of what I mentioned? > I wonder that >>you couldn't easily put in a list of 100 or so "keywords", one of >>who's selection who "automatically" evoke the search engine to >>find references. >> >>This would provide an implicit cross-reference, and should take >>essentially no work to implement [possibly an invalid assumption]. >> >>- dan michaels >>www.oricomtech.com >>================== -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu
