Hi David, Have you had a search down the links provided by Brooke's Sensors Page http://www.pacificsites.com/~brooke/Sensors.shtml I was under the impression that lightning location was done by triangulation using VLF radio frequencies. The setup you describe would seem to imply detection using distrubances to the earth's magnetic field.
