(or was that some other post...hmm) There are several example projects in there (including a blinking LED and pushbutton activated LED, I think) and I will have to concur on the suggestion that you start small. I got started with a YAP-II and Myke's book; you can certainly start cheaper if you need to. I was happy with the YAP-II programmer / breadboard and the easy windows-based interface. You said you were unsure where to start (ie compiling, etc) -- Download the MPASM assembler / utilities from Microchips web site, and install it.
