You know, I've had the most luck with Mike's 2-wire
LCD interface (found in the PICList routine archive,
and also at http://www.rentron.com/Myke1.htm).  It
requires an extra chip (a simple flip-flop that can
be bought at radiohack for $1.29), but frees up a
bunch of pins.
