(I realise you know this Scott, but the original poster probably doesn't) Can't remember the exact reference but somewhere in the Bluetooth documentation they spell out the licence agreement. About the only thing they will sue you for is trying to use the technology/protocol *without* getting the product qualified. This is from the qualification site FAQ. Q. Do all products have to be go through the Bluetooth qualification process? A. Yes, any product that is to be sold with Bluetooth wireless technology must be licensed. The Bluetooth Adopters Agreement is an intellectual property license agreement that allows the Member to make and sell products which 'comply with the Specification.' Qualification is the process by which the Member demonstrates the product complies with the Bluetooth Specification. Note the phrase in the first sentence of the answer "any product ... with Bluetooth Wireless Technology". No mention of the bluetooth logo. If you want to do something really basic, and you just the radio mechanism to establish a connection but you do not want to be fully Bluetooth compliant then this is feasible. Using something like an ericsson module will fit your requirements, see mobile.ericsson.se/bluetooth regards, SW. -----Original Message----- From: rad0 [mailto:rden25@MINDSPRING.COM] Sent: 11 January 2001 19:36 To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: what is bluetooth? Hello picsters! I was wondering, exactly what is bluetooth? Is it a protocal and an rf tx/rx system?? or more or less? Has anyone done anything with it using a stamp?? I'm working on a basic rf remote control device and so far it's a real pain. Is bluetooth low level enough for something like this ? Or would this be putting out a match with a fire hose??
