The 12C508A can be had for US$0.98 in 100 quantities, and it approaches
US$0.50 in OEM quantities.
The PIC16C505 is also near this price in quantity, as is the 12C509A.  At
one time, the PIC16C54 was nearly this cheap, but they seem to have drifted
up a little.
