Excellent point! spamcop.com has a field to add in another email address to
send the complaint to and this would be a perfect place to copy in the email
address(s) of the company whose product is being linked to by open-systems.
This reports the spam to every person who has any ability to pressure the
spammer into shutting it down: The ISP, the ISP organizations, the
advertisers, and the spam blocking services.

PLEASE! All concerned PICListers: Do this if you are receiving these emails.
If we don't stop SPAM as an effective advertising measure, who will? And if
we don't do it now, when will there be a better time? This problem is just
going to get worse if we don't kill it.

I've added the email addresses of the companies that open-systems has
spammed me on behalf of to the cc in this email. If the 1900 members of the
PICList just hit reply-to-all and voice their displeasure on this issue,
maybe some changes will be made.

Well, here's what the deal is, open systems pci is an 'industry rag'
(trade journal, spamvertiser, etc) which other companies advertise in.  So
all you need to do is talk directly to the company that the letter is
advertising (such as Junga, who has hot swap pci stuff), and complain
loudly and long to them - They don't know that open systems is
spamming(but if enough people complain to them directly about it then
they'll get the idea), and when they find out they are likely to talk
loudly and long with open systems about it.

When I sent my letter to Junga I got a response about a week later from
open systems telling me they don't know how they got my name, but that
they were sure it came from a reputable source (shady explanation at
best), and they went on to say that Junga was not responsible for the
mailing, and would I please complain to open systems directly in the
future.

Of course, I won't.  The only way Open Systems will get the message that
they should not advertise this way, and that they should check their lists
carefully is if we complain to the people who give them money.  When we
do, they stop getting as much money.  They don't care about us, just their
money.

Ten loud people are heard more readily than ten thousand silent people.
