It seems that it would be difficult for a patent examiner to be so up to date on a particular field that he/she would know what is prior art or "non-obvious to someone skilled in the art". I think patent applications should be published for public comment prior to the granting of a patent. You'd have thousands of eyes reviewing the application instead of just a few. I hear rumor that it's done this way in Europe. Is that correct?
