Pretty sure they will pick up most conductive stuff. They are often quite sensitive / over sensitive
(I have had them go off when I went through them with all my metal items in the tray provided, and I
have not got _that_ many amalgam fillings!)

You might get away with a ceramic weapon though, but I wouldn't like to bet on it. And I wouldn't
try a ceramic gun like the whacko in 'in the line of fire' uses... i have a funny feeling that
machineable ceramic would just explode when the pin hit the cap.
