Well, I think I found something -- I discovered that after I download
the bigger program, for unknown reasons T1CON has been changed from
the default of 0x00 to 0x09, which messes up -- lo and behold --
PORTC:1..0. So that seems to be why PORTC is messed up -- now I need
to figure out why T1CON is not behaving as it should in reset ...
