I am a recent entrant into the exciting PIC world. Can someone suggest to me a simple and reliable COM port programmer that will work with my Pentium PC (P III 450MHz). I would like to build this myself and hence would need the schematic and the software. I recently tried the extremely simple "Quick and Dirty Programmer" which I saw in www.elproducts.com. This uses the parallel port and works fine but it cannot read the PIC and needs a separate power supply. Are there any specific advantages in using parallel port programmers as opposed to the serial port ones? Thanks for helpful replies.
