What you need is an IR receiver module that already includes a very
narrow bandpass filter and a lot of clean amplification.  They're
cheap, and they're available from any of the catalog distributors
(Digi-Key, Newark, Allied, etc.).

Any one of those integrated modules will produce MUCH better results
than a discrete solution.
