It doesn't look to me like it actually does hand writing recognition. Based on the picture at http://www.youcansave.com/palmpilot.html its just a "look a like" of the palmpilot with a pen for tapping on an "on screen" keypad. That is certainly not a graphics LCD in anyway. Might still be fun to buy and crack open. If you could reprogram it, it might be useful for a user interface. --- James Newton (PICList Admin #3) mailto:jamesnewton@piclist.com 1-619-652-0593 PIC/PICList FAQ: http://www.piclist.com or .org -----Original Message----- From: pic microcontroller discussion list [mailto:PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU]On Behalf Of Dan Michaels Sent: Tuesday, November 07, 2000 09:07 To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: [OT]: Protege Hacking I noticed an ad from Walgreens Drugstore for a little Palm-like device - Protege Touch Screen Organizer - stores names, addresses, etc, and sells for $19.95 [amazing]. Has an LCD display. Of course, the "first" thing comes to mind is - is this thing hackible? Anyone have one? The LCD screen is probably special design, rather than generic graphic-dots - which will of course minimize usability. Chip is probably special design ROM'med, and not something more usable, but who knows, maybe they put a PIC in there. - Dan Michaels Oricom Technologies http://www.users.uswest.net/~oricom =================================== -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu
