National will introduce a tool that includes a phase-locked-loop (PLL) simulator and a thermal modeling tool, in addition to a power- supply simulator. Fairchild has put a backplane simulator on-line for designers to use. http://www.edtn.com/shared/redirect?url=http://planetanalog.com/story/OEG200 01016S0033&source_code=31 # # # # # # --Infineon readies commercial SiGe process-- While Infineon has researched silicon germanium for some time, a 10-GHz SiGe BiCMOS phase-locked loop (PLL) set a benchmark in high speed, low power and integration for RF ICs. For mobile phones, the PLL offers improved RF performance and 50 percent less supply current. http://www.edtn.com/shared/redirect?url=http://planetanalog.com/story/OEG200 01016S0063&source_code=31 # # # # # # --Innoveda, Mentor push wire harness design tools-- Innoveda Inc. and Mentor Graphics Corp. have beefed up their tools that help engineers design electrical systems and lay out the yards of wires in automobiles, planes and a variety of consumer products. Innoveda will release new views for its TransDesign harness design solution, while Mentor has added an analysis capability to its Logical Cable (LCable) solution. http://www.edtn.com/shared/redirect?url=http://planetanalog.com/story/OEG200 01016S0039&source_code=31 ***************************************************** Sponsor: BLUETOOTH DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE 2000 Join us at the Bluetooth Developers Conference 2000 and witness The Creation of a World Without Wires Dec 5-7, 2000 (Dec 4 - Pre-Conference Seminar) San Jose Convention Center, San Jose, CA. It compares three different current-steering architectures for their strengths and weaknesses. http://www.edtn.com/shared/redirect?url=http://planetanalog.com/story/OEG200 01016S0035&source_code=31 # # # # # # --Big processors need clever Start-Up and Shut-Down-- High-performance microprocessor and DSP based products are presenting new challenges to the system power supply designer. The requirement for two or more supply voltages plus the need for sequencing or tracking of supplies with the latest fine geometry processors has created a need for sophisticated control of power management circuits. Summit Microelectronics' Andy Jenkins reports. http://www.edtn.com/shared/redirect?url=http://planetanalog.com/story/OEG200 01010S0084&source_code=31 # # # # # # --Reducing Bluetooth components-- Most Bluetooth suppliers have adopted a multichip approach to system design, employing CMOS devices for the baseband DSP and microcontroller and bipolar devices for the RF functions. This approach raises the component count and implementation costs. In this contributed article, Cambridge Silicon Radio describes its techniques for reducing the Bluetooth component count. http://www.edtn.com/shared/redirect?url=http://planetanalog.com/story/OEG200 01009S0035&source_code=31 ***************************************************** Sponsor: IP2000 SWEDEN Europe's premier System-on-Chip event, the IP / Bluetooth conference & exhibition is also taking place at the Solvalla Conference Centre, Stockholm, Sweden on the 26th October 2000.
