Andrew,

One common answer is to use 74LVCxxx logic, which have 5 V tolerant
inputs, and rail to rail output swings.  When powered at 3.3 V, they
are effective level shifters.  Be careful that your noise margin on
guaranteed high and low states is adequate.

You can use the TI web site to get more info on LVC logic
www.ti.com  (I think), the data sheets are all there.
