My FreeBSD box has sendmail and a few other programs enabled on it which do silly things like DNS queries and such at odd hours. I've set my box up so it will only dial out if I try and contact an IP address on a TCP port on another server. It's kind of kludgy, but to connect, all you have to do is open a browser on another computer, type in a random IP address and it connects. It disconnects if there isn't any TCP activity for 5 minutes. (which rules out DNS queries, as they are UDP) I'd like to be able to control it from another computer more easily (ie, VB program which tells the box to connect or disconnect), but no time to learn. -Adam Andy Kelley N1YEW wrote: > > did you ever notice that demand dialing dials randomly?? > > andy > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Mike Eggleston > To: > Sent: Thursday, October 12, 2000 9:41 PM > Subject: Re: [OT]: LINUX AND MASQUAREDING > > > I'm using a linux box as demand dialup for five windows boxes and have no > problems at all.
