(Wow, my first PICLIST post after lurking for months. And it's [OT]. How embarrasing :-) "M. Adam Davis" wrote : >I've heard that Hogan is actually disliked by a large portion of australians... >Perhaps our aussie friends could clue me in here? Well, it's an odd thing. We Australians are very good at seeing the funny side of ourselves, and poking fun at it. It's almost the closest thing we have to a truly national sport (apologies to all Victorians on the list; I'm from Qld so AFL doesn't count :-). BUT! - let an outsider (including expatriots) join in the fun, and we hate them. Somehow, it's not funny if someone else is making the jokes. Kiwis excluded, of course - there's long been a good-natured ragging contest going on between the 2 countries. It's like a family feud - the whole family can hate each other with a passion, but as soon as an outsider joins in *every single family member* will close ranks and turn on the them... >My understanding was that his character furthered some australian myths >which aren't considered flattering down under. True. But we think they're funny all the same... >But you can't beat, "That's not a knife. /This/ is a knife...") Glad to know we've made a contibution to world culture ;-) To drag this post back on-topic a bit, I'd just like to say thanks to everybody on the list for helping me, a person who last programmed ASM on Z80s, the mysteries of the PIC. Granted, at times it's almost made me give up and go over to the Atmel chips, but I know I can always buy a PIC ;-) Rod. -- http://www.piclist.com hint: PICList Posts must start with ONE topic: "[PIC]:" PIC only "[EE]:" engineering "[OT]:" off topic "[AD]:" ad's
