I like this idea, and if it's human-moderated then it would solve the problem of multiple upgrade notices from Microchip. Not that it's too much of a problem since they only arrive in flurries a few times a year. I'm assuming you're planning to include other things beyond Microchip stuff, e.g. popular compilers, bootloaders, etc. Hmmm, now I come to think of it there could be quite a lot of info available. You could give it a distinct tag so that folks who don't want it can zap it.
