imho alice campbell's oscillator contribution can be modified so its
relaxation frequency becomes very low and actually causes the LED to
flash. That would make it 1 transistor, blue led and 1.5V supply. To do
this it would be necessary to change the components in the base of the
transistor (esp. enlarge the cap and the resistor). It would use the same
number of parts. BTW the scheme requires a decoupling capacitor across the
battery.
