Is there a generic connector system for laptop screens, same as there is for alpha-numeric panels ? I have several from scrapped 386/486 laptops. Most have a 20-pin IDC cable/socket and a 4-pin power connector lead (white/black/red/black). If possible I'd like to use these for portable PIC projects I have in mind. Some driver chips are easily identifiable but others could buried, and I'm not keen to mess a screen up to see how it works only then to find out it won't work anymore (d'oh !). The data side of things may be quite easy, but what about illumination voltages ? They can get quite high AFAIK. I've wandered about the mftrs sites of course, but I didn't get the info I didn't expect to. Any suggestions ? -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The PICList is archived three different ways.
