I'd been thinking along the "mode switch" lines myself, with a timeout to force all the slaves back to "general call" mode... Would you care to elaborate on your 10-bit addressing approach? Were you thinking of doing something simliar to the two-addresses approach, but with a toggle between 10- and 7- bit modes (instead of actual address) on some signal from the master...?
