If I have a PIC program that was written to access a Xicor 2402 EEPROM can I
directly substitute a microchip 2402?

My guess is yes based on (what I understood from) the data sheets but of
course, I build a circuit I found, that uses an EEPROM, and it didn't work
at all so I'm covering all possibilities including that it didn't like my
EEPROM substitution.
