You may want to have a look at an article on web cam in Circuit Cellar
August 2000 p20.
The authors use the Mattel camera (also available at Toysrus for 80$can)
, which seem to be similar (if not the same)to the one you are using
except for the transmission speed.
The protocol is also described.
