>1024 cycles + crystal startup delay after sleep Afaik there is no way to remove the delay caused by the crystal startup. Only the RC type of clock starts within 2 clock cycles at most. The 1024 cycle delay can be turned off in some PICs by disabling the power-up timer using a configuration fuse. The fuse is called PWRTE on the 16F84. There is a way to 'kick' the oscillator using a pulse generator circuit (external hardware). Depending on the way the PIC exits sleep state this kick may be provided by the circuit already, so it would be useless.
