As long as you keep the receive enable pin active while transmitting, you
should receive what you send. If you have tied pins 2 and 3 together, this
will disable receive while transmitting.
(ie. When tx -> pin 2 and 3 = high, when rx -> pin2 = high, pin 3 = low)
