> Actually, I heard on the local news the other night that Houston >has now taken over the Honor(?) of having the worst pollution of >any US city. LA has dropped to about 3rd or 4th. I think second >is NYC. The worst AQI in NJ is actually in a rural county (Warren, in the NW corner). And it isn't caused by the cows. The pollution from Harrisburg, PA to Philly is blown the the prevailing winds into the V-shaped area of Warren County, formed by the edges of the Appalachian ridge to the North/West and foothills on the South/East. Most of the storms, fortunately, come over the Appalachian ridge and flush the pollution onto our fields and blow the rest into the area feeding NYC's airstream. This is actually kewl to watch, as you can see the storms build energy and altitude, then suddenly crash over the ridge. It happens again as they cross the next ridge. Our church is in a perfect spot to witness these, near the base of the V with both ridges in plain site. Pollution is EVERYBODY'S problem. I wonder just how much is caused by our need to have 25W space heaters in our PCs. Andy -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The PICList is archived three different ways.
