You need to change the runlevel. It is set with a file in the /etc directory (/etc/runlevel ?). I can't remember which, I usually just grep the /etc directory to find it. The comments in the file are pretty self explanatory. There is another program that needs to be installed to do all the authentication into X (the GUI). If you have the manual, it should be pretty well explained there. Maybe you can get the manual as a PDF from the redhat web site?
