Alas ...our experience was stainless corroded, aluminium may
work on boats with sacrificial anodes but it vanishes other wise and
any coated materials will probably lose their coating in a rough
(marine) type environment. Our gear was sometimes rolled in the
surf or bashed for hours on end in rubber inflatable boats.
As I said.. we learnt this the hard way.
The only other metal I saw (but we never used) survive on energized
gear was Monal (AFAIR?) metal. I cant remember what alloy it was
but it was up to the task.
