Hi, this is a returning subject imho. If you have a UV box of unknown provenience and want to erase windowed parts with it, make sure that it has clear tubes (not bulbs) inside and that it makes a bit of ozone smell when turned on (don't look into the lamps when they work !). If it passes these two tests then it should erase EPROMs and PICs within 20-45 minutes. The chips should be placed very close to the tubes (withing 1 inch or even contacting the lamp envelopes). The chips will be safe if they do not exceed the storage temperature (which is well above 100 degrees C - not likely to be reached unless you shine a high pressure mercury vapor arc lamp onto them - which is what I am using incidentally, but please do what I say, and not what I do ;-) ). hope this helps, Peter
