I have a small bit of code at my site:

It includes setting the configuration bits.
The code currently:
Sets up the UART and A/D, then waits for commands via UART, or keypresses on the
keypad.  Commands to check the A/D on channel one (and send the result through
the UART), and send control/data info to the LCD can be sent through the UART.

The target is a 16f876, but could easily be any of the 16f87x variants.
