Thanks to all, but I forgot to include details... the 5 computers are all pre-loaded with Windoze 98 2nd Edition  and I will be using dial-up account (56k) to connect to the net. Also, I would like to use freewares as much as possible... Is it alright not to be to much concern about security since I will be using the firewall of my ISP....

I want to network 5 computers and share internet connection among
    them... what advises can you give me to avoid problems in getting it to
    work. I want to do it in the cheapest but reliable and stable
    configuration possible.. What brands (nic, hubs) do you recommend ( the
    most cost effective) ? Any url's, links to tutorials about the subject
    will be most welcome...
