To do proper traction control, you cannot just use the throttle due to the lag, you don't want to cut all the cylinders either, ideally you would start by retarding the ignition timing to reduce power, and then if that isn't working enough you selectively cut cylinders, probably by cutting injections, especially on a vehicle with a wasted spark ignition system.
