A 50MHz fundamental crystal isn't cheap. If you really want to spend US$10-20 per unit, let me know. I have some sources filed away somewhere. That's interesting that they say an overtone type isn't that suitable. Reading between the lines it infers to me that they expect a lot of support calls if you try and use them. An overtone crystal isn't that hard to use but unless you actually need the timing qualities, the ceramic resonators from Parallax (or Murata for qty) are your best bet. If you need the accuracy, I'd look seriously at canned oscillators. You know they are going to work.
