High density batterys should always have a fuse or self resetting
fusable link installed IN the battery pack AND a fuse in the supply
lead to prevent this problem

on the subject of caps blowing...
When playing wirh a valve ( tube) AM Broadcast Transmitter for
'local' use ;-)
I had a 450 volt 1uF 'brick' paper cap blow, it was on a chassis in
an old ammunition case and seriously dented this case, the paper
went everywhere. what a mess :-(
