In other words, you can't easily use the thing out of the box to make sure it or your test program (sorta) works. I guess they figure once you get this, you'll never need your PIC Start Plus again. You should take that supply. Right? On a brighter note, the next rev of the ICD (ICD II, I think) they are supposed to add a supply. I was told: "nobody knows why there's no supply with the ICD." Microchip's ICD takes power from the circuit you are using the ICD in.
